Description

"A selection of glassware engraved with various masonic emblems.

Centre A unique magnum carafe bearing masonic emblems and the inscription ""May brotherly love continue""' and a profile portrait of George Ill, c. 1776, height 12⅝"".

Back: Two goblets: on the right one which belonged to His late Majesty King George VI, P.G.M., now on permanent loan from H.M. the Queen. It is heavily engraved and is a good example of a mid-19th century work, 9"" high.

On the left a large goblet or loving cup with a grape vine pattern. Further le,t: A wine flagon 12'¾"" and two glasses 8 '"" of continental make, fine examples of the glass engraver's art, belonging to the Chapter of St. James, No. 2. Further right: A Cup bowl goblet with engraved border, a decanter 10½"" typical of the design used in lodges in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a most unusual jug bearing the name ""Sir Augustus Harris"", a founder and first Senior Warden of the Drury Lane Lodge, No .2127, 1885, Grand Treasurer 1890.

Right Foreground :A few examples of firing glasses. The heavy one next to the carafe (centre) is Bohemian clear glass (others were. Made in amber and red) : the fifth is enamelled, the work of William Beilby of Newcastle, c. 1783, bearing masonic insignia in yellow and red and the Arms of the Moderns (2½"")

Left of Carafe : A waisted grog glass 6¾; A rummerengraved with a grape vine pattern and the square and compass 5"" ; and a rummer c. 1790, formerly used in the Lodge of Unity , No . 71, Norwich, 5¼"".

Left Foreground from Centre outwards: Port, sherry and champagne glasses with straw sterns and cut flat flutes, each engraved with a coronet and ""R.A.L. No. 16,"" part of a large service lent by the Royal Alpha Lodge."
