It was made to contain the Articles of Union agreed in 1813 by the two rival Grand Lodges, thus ending a period of disharmony , which had begun in 1751 with the formation of the Antients Grand Lodge. so called because it claimed to practise a more ancient form of freemasonry .

Right : The personal Standard of' the Grand Master. H.R.H. the Duke of Kent, G.C.M .G., G.C.V.O., A .D.C.

Centre-Bottom : The Grand l.odge Sword of State. the blade of which is reputed to have been found lying across the body of Gustavus II Adolphus , King of Sweden, at the Battle of Lützen in 1632. lt was acquired by the 8th Duke of Norfolk (G.M. 1729) who presented it to Grand Lodge. The silver gilt masonic hilt and mountings, and the scabbard were made in 1730 by George Moody, the Royal Armourer, who was the first Grand Sword Bearer of Grand Lodge."
