Description
"This artwork is a reproduction of ""Evening,"" the third plate from the series The Four Times of the Day created by British artist William Hogarth in 1738.
• Subject Matter: The satirical scene depicts a dyer and his pregnant wife with their children returning from a hot summer outing in Islington, London.
• Symbolism: Hogarth used humor to comment on contemporary London life; for instance, the man appears to have horns because his head aligns with a cow in the background, symbolizing that he is a cuckold.
• Artistic Detail: The print was originally etched and engraved by Bernard Baron based on paintings by Hogarth."
