Description
"This illustration depicts the Ark of the Covenant, a sacred chest described in the Hebrew Bible. According to biblical accounts, it was built by the Israelites to house the tablets of the Ten Commandments.
Key Features Shown:
• The Mercy Seat: The lid of the Ark, which features two golden Cherubim (winged angelic figures) facing each other with their wings spread upward.
• Carrying Poles: Long staves inserted through rings on the sides, used by the Levites to transport the Ark without touching it directly.
• The Chest: Traditionally made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold, though this artistic rendering includes a decorative emblem on the front panel.
In religious tradition, the Ark represented the physical presence of God among his people and was kept in the innermost sanctum of the Temple, the Holy of Holies."
