OBVERSE: View of the Bridge, with buildings behind on the left, and clouds above. Around the upper part, URBIS COMMODO. AMPLIFICATIONI and in ex: PONS AD LETHAM/ EDINB. PORTUM/MDCCLXIII

REVERSE: In 16 lines, F. D. 0. M./PONTIS AD LETHAM EDINB. PORTUM/LAPIDEM HUNC FUNDAMINIS PRINCIPIUM/POSUIT/GEORGIUS DRUMMONDUS ARMIGER/URBIS CONSUL/PRAETORII SUI ANNO DUODECIMO/DIE OCTOB. XXI. A. D. MDCCLXIII/ ÆRAE AUTEM ARCHITECTONICAE ANNO VMDCCLXM/HONORABILI & SUMME COLENDO VIRO/CAROLO COMITE DE ELGIN/APUD SCOTOS ARTIS HUJUS CURIONE MAXIMO/AC GEORGII III/MAG. BRITAN. FR. & HIB. REGIS./ANNO III./Q D. B. V.

The Foundation Stone was laid with considerable ceremony and the acting Grand Master, George Drummond, was attended by upwards of 6oo Brethren representing no less than fourteen Edinburgh Lodges. Only one specimen of this medal, which is engraved and not struck, exists, and this is in the possession of the National Museum of Scotland.
