Description
OBVERSE: A figure of Harpocrates, lightly draped around the loins, his right forefinger to his lips, leaning with his elbow on a broken column; in his left hand he holds a square and compasses. Around, TVTA • EST • FIDELI • SILENTIO . MERCES and in ex: YEO. F
REVERSE: Two right hands clasped. Above, on a scroll, CONCORDIA • FRATRUM and below, INSVLA. MINOR• BALEARI and in ex: 5749
The medal probably commemorates the establishment of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Minorca, which took place between 1747 and 1751, when Lt.-Col. James Adolphus Oughton was appointed Pr. G. M. by Lord Byron. Three Lodges were constituted in Minorca during 1750.
