Description

OBVERSE: Portrait bust of James Burnes to left; around, PRAT. INSIG. ET DILECT. JACOBUS BURNES FUNDATOR On the truncation of the bust, R. WYON F.

REVERSE: A Parsee and a Mohammedan, wearing Past Masters’ aprons and collars with jewels (the latter that of a Senior Warden), and holding staves with small banners, standing one on each side of a pedestal, inscribed on the front LODGE/RISING/STAR/AT/BOMBAY, which supports two books and a gavel. In front are Masonic implements, and behind a palm tree. Around, FOUNDED FOR THE RECEPTION OF NATIVE GENTLEMEN/DEC. 15. 1843

Dr. Burnes, Pr. G. M. for the Western Provinces, was a Founder and first Master of this Lodge, which, at its first anniversary meeting, was opened to the native gentlemen of India.
