Description

OBVERSE: Within an inner circle with ornamental border, against a sky of blue enamel, a view of Calcutta, with a minaret in the foreground, standing on a rocky eminence among shrubs. A star of silver, set with a brilliant, is in the sky. Around the circle, LODGE STAR IN THE EAST N° 8o/ . JUNE 1740.

REVERSE: Plain.

Ribbon, 37 mm., light blue; bar, clasp and hanger ornamented with a leaf pattern.

The Lodge dates from 1740, but was not placed on the Register until 1747. The Centenary Jewel appears to have been sanctioned in 1848.

56 mm. Silver gilt and enamel.
