Details

1791. The life of Count Cagliostro, or Joseph Balsarno, reads “stranger than fiction.” Opinions differ as to his real character, but generally the view is held that is unfavourable to him as a man and a Mason. The three Encyclopaedias may be consulted with advantage, as the one edited by the late Bro. Mackenzie is not antagonistic to his claims, as is usually the case, but I do not think myself it is easy work to “whitewash” his name.
