Description

These medals were sold to wear in th Masonic procession when the corner-stone of the base was laid by the M.W. Grand Master.

OBVERSE.—A view of the Egyptian Obelisk in New York. Legend above, “The Egyptian Obelisk,” and below, “Was transported from Egypt and erected in Central Park, New York, 1880.”


REVERSE.—The square and compasses enclosing the letter “G.” The Roman Crosssprings from the inside of the square on the left, and a magician’s rod untwined with a serpent from the right, typifing the ancient Egyptian and the modern Christian faith. Below the angle of the square, “October 9, 1880.” Legend, “Corner-stone laid by the Grand Lodge, F.A.M. State of N.Y.”
