Description
Goswin Joseph Augustin de Stassart was elected Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Belgium March 4, 1835, and served six years.
Obverse—A phoenix with expanded wings, holding in its beak a Sprig of acaeia, and in his left talons the rule and compasses, is rising from a burning pyre to the sun, which darts its ray from above on the right. In the background on the left a temple, with two great pillars in its front; the letter “J" on the left, and “B” on the right. Legend, “ Resurgens Tenebras Vera Luce Dimovet” (Rising again, it dispenses darkness with true light). In very small letters, on the lower left side, “Jouvenel, Lux.”
Reverse—A “votive tablet,” above which is the Delta with the tetragrammaton, surrounded by rays which appear on the sides of the tablet. On the tablet inscription, in seven lines, “La Maçonnenie Survit a tous les tems Dieu le vent” (Masonry will survive through all time, God wills it). Legend, in two lines, “A G .’. J .’. A .’. De Stassart Gr .’. M .’. De Belgique Bruxelles 2e .'. J .’. 3e .'. M .'. 5835.”
