Description
The oblong ceiling, boldly coffered and decorated, culminates in a representation of the Celestial Canopy. Surrounding it is a mosaic cove, 15 feet in girth, depicting Solomon and Hiram of Tyre (east), St. George and the Dragon with the Duke of Connaught's coat of arms (north), and, invisible in the transparency, the chariot of Apollo the sun god (south), Euclid and Pythagoras (west), and the four cardinal virtues at the corners. The background is sky blue with golden sunbeams.
