"This image is a reproduction of a 1725 mezzotint portrait depicting John Theophilus Desaguliers (1683–1744).
• Subject: Desaguliers was a prominent French-born British natural philosopher, clergyman, and engineer who served as an experimental assistant to Sir Isaac Newton.
• Significance: He was a major figure in early Freemasonry, serving as the third Grand Master of the Premier Grand Lodge of England in 1719.
