"Date: Late 18th century. C 1780

Origin: English.

Style: A large goblet deeply engraved with a coronet with a cross above, an all seeing eye. The letters G, O, F and A engraved around the cross. Therefore, it is probably an ascension glass: ‘God Our Fathers Accension’. The are two swords in saltire, seven stars spread around, a square, two substantial garlands of stylised rose and thistle branches entwined together. A number of thistle heads and two flowering rose flowers one each side and leaves. There is also some artistic engraving of shapes that appear to be initials but are in fact not. The bowl is 10.3 cm in diameter.

Stem: Plain, squat and short.

Foot: Spread and   9.6cm in diameter.

Pontil: Roughly ground out. Not polished."

"Height: 14.6cm.

Glass: Clear lead with a grey hue.  

Weight: 707 grams.

Condition: Very good. Some very minor surface scratches to the bowl. Good wear to the foot commensurate with age. The foot is not completely level giving the glass a slight wobble."
