OBVERSE: Portrait bust of Washington to left; below, BORN FEB. 22. 1732—DIED DEC. 14. 1799. Around, FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE, AND FIRST IN THE HEARTS OF HIS COUNTRY MEN. All within a chaplet of laurel.
REVERSE: Scene of George Washington discovered by his father with a hatchet in his hand and a felled tree; above, monogram of G W, surmounted by an eye, within a chaplet of oak and laurel. Around, MAGNA EST VERITAS ET PRÆVALEBIT. and in ex: I CAN NOT TELL A LIE./1876
